How might we provide hot
flash relief to pre- and
peri-menopausal women?
Start up health and wellness company Amira Health came to us with a prototype for delivering comfort to people experiencing menopausal hot flashes. Specifically, their system tracked key biometric data to predict within a 90% accuracy when a hot flash would occur, then activated a water cooling hub to send water to a cooling pad that would regulate a sleeping person’s body temperature. This would enable them to sleep soundly through the night.
The team at Amira asked us to come up with an overall brand design, design language system, and product design.

For this project, we began by undergoing intensive yet fast research to understand the customer context and define our brand and design strategy. We held a brainstorm day where we mapped an ideal user journey and aligned on why we are doing this work. We then began collecting data points on what the target user experiences, from physical symptoms to emotional journey. Our sources were myriad:

- social media listening
- articles from popular news sources
- podcasts
- published research from peer reviewed medical
journals
From the research, we were able to map current and ideal user journeys, uncover insights about the target customer, understand who Amira’s true competitors are, and more.
Next, we were able to craft a company brand strategy, design language system, and product strategy for the cooling system.
Finally, I worked with the team and client as a strategic advisor while the product was designed, prototyped, tested, and refined.
The Amira Terra System is getting rave reviews from medical practitioners and patients alike. It is now available for pre-order.
